Textures?

I just starting working with adding textures to some of my photos. Here are a few examples in some revisited photos. Advice, constructive criticism & your thoughts are more than welcome. Let me know what you think about using textures to create a more dramatic, creative, unique & different kind of photo.

I personally think textures have their place... they do not belong on every photo but can make a blown out sky or striking white wall or building look more interesting... NEAT tip: if you select your subject (in the overlay layer) use a loose lasso to select them then go to your blur, glassin (sp) blur and go 100%. It removes the texture from JUST the subject... if you take it a step further with the lasso and right click inside it then feather, and 250 it will be really really lose and will fade into them in a very nice way... Try it out I think you'll like it!! don't forget that Overlay, Softlight, difference and all those options in your layer blending make a difference in how it looks but overlay and softlight are the best...

Thanks Jess! That is very helpful And I agree, they do have their place. I tried on a few different photos and it just looked weird. But I appreciate the tip and sugestions for sure. I'm learning everything I know about photoshop online...not an easy task but I feel like I'm getting there! Mucho thanks again!
